Recently, Afchina completed the acquisition of sulfonamides fiber equipment and intellectual property rights of Shanghai Tanlon Fiber Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Shanghai Tanlon). The acquisition will enable Afchina to increase its aramid fiber business on the basis of the original and enhance its competitiveness in the field of high-performance fibers.

The main products include aramid filaments, aramid staple fiber, aramid pulp, aramid short-cut fiber, aramid rope, aramid sewing thread, aramid elastomer, and aramid composite materials, etc. The company takes lead in China to develop key industrialization technologies such as meta- and para-aramid, aramid paper, and nano-aramid diaphragms with independent intellectual property rights. It reaches international leading levels to fill in a number of national gaps and break the foreign technology blockade and the ban on sales in aerospace and other markets. It has made important contributions to promote the localization of military and aerospace materials and the upgrading of related industries.
Sulfonamides have good mechanical properties, heat resistance, flame retardancy, and dyeability which are widely used in smoke filtration, military protection, fire/industrial/home protection, flame retardant composite materials, and other fields.
Relying on the advantages of polysulfonamide (PSA) products, Shanghai Tanlon successively participated in the aerospace engineering missions such as “Tiangong- 1” launching and moon landing project. It also participated in the development and provision of naval aircraft carrier vapor protection, a new type of protection for firefighter and armed police, individual integration, and other products; At the same time, to meet the needs of domestically produced c919 and HNA’s lightweight and localized seat fabrics, it cooperated with the Academy of Textile Research and Kawashima to jointly develop lightweight seat fabric products.
Afchina has a high reputation in the aramid business, but it is still a new participant in the PSA fiber field. This acquisition has quite important strategic significance for Afchina.
It will increase the business on the basis of the original aramid fiber business and form a two-wheel-drive development strategy of aramid fiber + PSA fiber.
